In light of recent events around the world, I figured this would be
a great time to post about ways to give back. There are a lot
of ways to do this. You don’t have to be rich, because I’m not. You
just need an open mind and an open heart.
RaceRaiser. Race for a cause.
I plan to pick a cause for my marathon and raise money for
it. It’s also a good way to push you to train hard because someone
is counting on you.
Oxfam. One of my favorites. Help to end poverty and injustice.
You can donate as little or as much as you want.
The American Red Cross. Helping to provide disaster relief to
those in hard hit areas. You can donate your money or your time.
Most of us know someone that was affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The ASPCA. You can donate your money, find a way to
give your time or bring home an animal. They can’t speak for
themselves but I can speak for them and say adopting George
was the best thing I’ve ever done. Animals need love too.
There are so many ways to help. Like I said- it’s not just about
your money, it’s about any time you can give to help a
stranger, a neighbor or maybe even a friend that’s having
some trouble this time of year. Lend a hand, ear or your heart.
And most importantly, keep those that are less fortunate in your
thoughts and prayers. Read this and smile. We can all do something
random this holiday season to make someone else’s day a little brighter.
Pay for someone’s coffee behind you in line. Drop off a meal to an elderly
neighbor or less fortunate family. Buy a small toy to donate to Toy’s
for Tot’s. Clean your closest and drop off clothes at a nearby shelter.
Question: What ways do you give back during this time of year?
